Kate Middleton in an induced coma: The end of the British monarchy?

Spanish media outlets are reporting that Kate Middleton is in a coma following her 16 January 2024. The actual operation went well but there was a post-operative complication meaning that Kate had to be placed in a medically induced coma. A medically induced coma places a patient in a reversibly unconscious state using anaesthetic sedatives to minimise damage, trauma, and pain. It is mainly used as a last resort in ICU and emergency wards to treat patients with traumatic brain injury, prolonged seizures or after cardio arrest. These reports have gained credence as the main source is Concha Calleja a seasoned and credible royal correspondent.

In the meantime, William has come under fire for only visiting his wife once since she has been in hospital. Buckingham Palace first reported that Kate was attending hospital for planned surgery. Commentators have questioned how the surgery could have been planned as her engagements had to be cancelled. The palace then issued a statement saying that Kate would not be returning to work until after Easter.

There is speculation that Kate might have fallen ill following an altercation with William about their marriage. As photographs of William alone with his children have surfaced others have wondered whether he is clearing the way for life without Kate and possibly one with his rumoured love interest, Rose Hanbury. 

Others are speculating that Charles’ slimmed-down monarchy is on the brink of collapse with hardly any firm’s senior members left to do the work.  William stepped back from duties leaving Sophie and Anne standing in the main to cut ribbons and wave at events.  Charles is off sick and hospitalised in the same hospital as Kate for an enlarged prostate and Camilla has busied herself by regularly showing up to visit Charles which in turn has highlighted William’s apparent neglect of Kate.  William has only visited Kate once in the hospital.

Fergie or Sarah Ferguson, a breast cancer survivor has herself been diagnosed with skin cancer.  While her ex-husband, Andrew, faces more allegations concerning the Epstein case.  

The British Media has still found time to bash Harry and Meghan for not showing sufficient interest in the health of Charles and Kate and for attending the Bob Marley film premiere in Jamaica, a country that wants to break free from the United Kingdom and become a Republic.

For those of us who see the British Royal family as sitting at the apex of an evil empire and entity, we hope that this chaos is a sign that The United Kingdom is closer to a Republic and that countries like Nigeria can truly rid themselves of continued colonial domination. There is nothing unusual about a family facing challenges with ill health or even marriage breakdown. However, it is dishonest and hypocritical for one family to act above the law and in return give itself huge privileges including holding other human beings in bondage and slavery whether transatlantic or the modern-day neo-colonialism that exists in that British construct and neo-colonial construct called Nigeria.
